Anupama Srivastava
Anupama Srivastava is a dancer, performer, teacher, and choreographer of the North Indian Classical Kathak dance. She is the Founder and Artistic Director of InSyncKathak Dance School based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and a disciple of Padmashri Guru Shovana Narayan. Anupama’s dance is marked by rhythmic virtuosity, fluid and graceful movements, exquisite expressions, and nuanced artistry. Her choreographies have won wide acclaim and accolades across the US, Canada and India. Some notable performances include the Drive East Festival New York, All Indian Dance Festival at Carnegie Hall NY, New York Kathak Festival, Sacramento Dance Sampler, National YoungArts Week Miami, San Francisco Movement Arts Festival, PUSHfest, Oakland Dance Festival, and the Toronto International Youth Dance Festival. Anupama won critical acclaim for organizing the “Guru Shovana Narayan USA Tour 2015” across nine cities in four states. Anupama has co-produced collaborative works with musicians and dancers of different genres. As a guru, Anupama provides rigorous training in the Lucknow Gharana style of Kathak. Anupama is a Master Artist and grant-recipient recognized by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. She regularly holds Kathak lecture-demonstrations at UC Santa Cruz. As further testament to her teaching prowess, her students have attained national recognition in the World Dance discipline through the National YoungArts Foundation: Reva Srivastava (Finalist and 2022 US Presidential Scholar in the Arts), Vyoma Bhanap (Finalist 2023), and Saanvi Ranadive (Merit 2023). Anupama holds a BS and an MS in Electrical Engineering and has had an 18-year career in Silicon Valley while embracing her passion for dancing. |

InSyncKathak has performed at the All Indian Dance Festival at Carnegie Hall NY, Drive East Festival NY, New York Kathak Festival, Sacramento Dance Sampler, National YoungArts Week Miami, San Francisco Movement Arts Festival, Oakland Dance Festival, Toronto International Youth Dance Festival, and innumerable Bay Area events. Three InSyncKathak students are National YoungArts winners in the World Dance discipline: Vyoma Bhanap (Finalist 2023), Saanvi Ranadive (Merit 2023) and Reva Srivastava (Finalist and 2022 US Presidential Scholar in the Arts). As a Master Artist Anupama with Apprentice Dr. Anjali Sahay received a 2021-22 Apprenticeship in Folk and Traditional Arts from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. InSyncKathak is a young but passionate dance school with impressive statistics: over 250+ events around the world, 50 awards, and over 150+ students! In the true spirit of the Guru-Shishya Parampara, students are given rigorous training in all aspects of the Lucknow Gharana style of Kathak. Dance has become their medium to express themselves, explore Indian history, mythology and culture, and a path to community involvement. Through collaborations with other dance and music traditions, they imbibe an appreciation for cultural diversity. |
